My View on Pension Reform | Ken Donnelly

My View on Pension Reform | Ken Donnelly

The politicians love to rail on and on about how the public pensions are "out of control", "need to be reformed", and "will eventually bankrupt cities and towns". What they will never admit to is that they are the reason the pensions and the economy is in the shitter. The politicians ignore the laws and leave pension plans un-funded, even after resolutions are passed in the face of financial troubles to fund them. Politicians in DC have borrowed against Social Security, yet blame the increase of people drawing from it for the looming insolvency. It is high time that the politicians put their money where their mouths are. If they are going to "reform" any pensions, theirs should be at the top of the list. Not only do they make obscene amounts of money for doing a "job" that is incredibly inefficient, and with no risk whatsoever, they have the audacity to place the blame their financial mistakes and mismanagement on the very people that risk their lives every time they put the uniform on and step out the door. Our police officers, firefighters, EMTs/paramedics, and members of the armed forces do not ask for much. The vast majority would just like to be left alone to do their job and live their life in peace, with maybe an occasional "thank you" from the politicians and public that lauds them after a success, yet is quick to blame them for every perceived problem in government. It takes a special type of person to put up with a job where in the vast majority of cases a single "Aw shit" can erase a thousand "Atta Boys(and Girls)".

  1. My thoughts exactly. They love to tout "reform of public pensions that are breaking the backs of our cities and towns", yet conveniently, the one group of public salaries/benefits/pensions that will never get "reformed", and somehow continue to rise exponentially are the ones belonging to the POLITICIANS
